The 12th International Conference and Exhibition in Yalta
204 specialists from the Ukraine, Russia, Byelorussia, Moldova and Lithuania who represented 47 industrial establishments, 11 higher educational institution, research institutes and designers offices, 42 science production companies, 16 expert and diagnostic centres as well as public organizations took part at the conference.
96 papers were submitted and near 50 of them were heard presented the results of their researches and elaborations on the wide range of NDT methods, on ways of diagnostics and prognostication of the residual resources of construction, on the evaluation of physical and mechanical characteristics of different materials, on some other directions relating to NDT.
About participation of uSNDT delegation in the 16-th World Conference on NDT in Montreal
From August 29 till September 16 World Conference on NDT organized by Canadian Society for NDT and International Committee on NDT (ICNDT), took place in Montreal. ICNDT amalgamates 84 societies for NDT from countries of Europe, Asia and America. Ukrainian Society for NDT is an equal member of ICNDT and a member of European Federation of NDT as well. At the exhibition of NDT means Ukrainian Society was granted an information booth, which was visited by a lot of representatives from different countries. Except for Russian speakers there were visitors from India, Croatia, USA, England, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Canada, etc.
Approximately 155 presentations were made in the Conference and about 800 firms participated in the exhibition and sessions. Our delegation spent in Montreal 3 days. We took part in two sessions of ICNDT and visited booths of the main companies. Of all the visited sessions and should commend the activity of Ukrainian Society for NDT in the working Group employing NDT means in detection of anti-personnel manes. The activity of the Group is extended in the direction of using NDT means against terrorism. Except for USNDT, representatives from Italy, Israel, Russia, Germane, Belarus and other countries took part in the session of the Working Group. When the Conference was over our delegation left for Toronto where we had quite rich cultural programme including the visit of the Niagara Fall.
International Industrial Forum "Heat power engineering complex of Ukraine – 2004"
The 2-nd International Industrial Forum "Head power Engineering Complex of Ukraine-2004" was held in the territory of the International Exhibition Centre in Kiev. The equipment for NDT at the exhibition was presented by the following companies: "Ultracon-Service", "Ultracon", "Pergam-Ukraine", "ITKT-Ukraine". By means of an information booth the representatives of Ukrainian Society for NDT told the visitors about the activity of the Society, offered the latest issues of Information Bulletin by USNDT "NDT-Inform" and other informational materials; invited to the conferences and seminars conducted on behalf of the Society. A specialised seminar "NDT and Technical Diagnostics in Oil and Gas Industry and Power Engineering" was held within the framework of this Forum which was organized by USNDT together with International Exhibition Centre. Approximately 40 experts representing both elaborators and consumers of NDT&TD means participated in the Seminar. The activity of the Seminar was summed up by Prof. V.Troitskij the underlined the importance of new technologies of NDT in the submitted presentations for Heat Power Engineering Complex of Ukraine. In was decided to carry out a Scientific-Technical Seminar on developing magnetic measuring method of NDT at E.O.Paton Electric Welding Institute by enlisting exports from Heat Power Engineering Complex. of USNDT Board for the period of 05.2003 - 05.2004 Organizing of NDT conferences, seminars and exhibitions in Ukraine
From May 19 to 23, the 4th National Scientific-Technical Conference and Exhibition "Non-Destructive Testing and Technical Diagnostics – 2003" was held at the E.O.Paton Electric Welding Institute of NAS of Ukraine. The Conference was organized by Ukrainian Society for NDT together with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, E.O.Paton Electric Welding Institute, National Company “Oil and Gas of Ukraine”, State Committee of Ukraine on Labour Safety and National Aviation University with the support of the European Federation of Non-Destructive Testing (EFNDT) and International Committee on NDT (ICNDT). Prominent scientists, manufacturers and operatives of NDT and TD devices from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Moldova participated in the Conference - all together more than 450 experts from approximately 180 organizations and enterprises. 139 presentation were submitted for the Conference, of which approximately 90 were made in the two plenary sessions and eight sections. An exhibition of NDT and TD instruments and means was held in parallel with the sections. 24 exhibitors from Ukraine, Russia, and Moldova took part in the exhibition. NDT and TD Societies of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus - USNDT, RS NDT&TD and BA NDT&TD shared a booth in the exhibition. Traditional Conference and Exhibition "Modern Methods and Means of NDT and Technical Diagnostics” was held from October 6 till 10, 2003 in the city of Yalta. Conference organizers were Ukrainian Information Centre "SCIENCE.TECHNIQUES.TECHNOLOGY" and Company “Machine building” with the support of USNDT, as well as RS NDT&TD, BA NDT&TD, Dnipropetrovsk National University. 180 experts took part in the Conference from Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Belarus, Lithuania, Germany, who represented 28 industrial enterprises, 18 higher educational establishments, research institutes and design bureaus, 29 science-production companies, 19 expert and diagnostic centres, as well as public organizations. 111 presentation were submitted for the Conference, of which about 60 were made. Annual Scientific-Practical Seminar "LEOTEST-2004" was held in Slavsko, Lviv region from January 16 to 21, 2004. This time the seminar was devoted to the problems of electromagnetic and acoustic methods of testing. The seminar was organized by Western Branch of USNDT (led by Dr. Valentin Uchanin) with the assistance of USNDT, G.V.Karpenko Physics-Mechanical Institute of NAS of Ukraine, Ivano-Frankivsk National University of Oil and Gas, "LEOTEST-MEDIUM" Centre, Company "Ultracon-Service", Company "ZOND". In the seminar 36 presentations were made. The most interesting of the papers were published in the proceeding of scientific papers. 2nd International Industrial Forum "Manufacturing and Protection – 2003" was held from November 26 to 28, 2003 in the territory of the International Exhibition Centre. The Forum was conducted on behalf of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. Ukrainian Society for NDT together with the Ukrainian Science-Production Centre on Standardization, Metrology and Certification and Company "International Exhibition Centre" was co-organizer of the Exhibition "Specimens, Standards, References, Instruments", held within the framework of this Forum and had its booth in the exhibition. USNDT, as well as the Technical Committee on Standardization "NDT and Technical Diagnostics", E.O.Paton Electric Welding Institute of the NAS of Ukraine, Personnel Certification Body of Association "Ukrexpert" were the organizers of the Seminar "Non-Destructive Testing and Technical Diagnostics", where the issues of introducing in Ukraine new national standards in the field of NDT, harmonized with the European standards, certification of NDT personnel and laboratories were presented and discussed. Crimean regional branch of USNDT (chairman - O.M.Tkachenko, assistant chairman - L.O.Karpenko) organized and conducted in Yalta the Seminar "NDT Specialist Trains a NDT Specialist", which was devoted to application of testing methods, providing operating reliability in fabrication, mounting, operation, technical diagnostics and repair of load-carrying metal structures, climbing cranes, steam and water heating boilers, tanks, processing installations and pipelines, and the main pipelines. About 40 experts on NDT and TD from utility companies, expert-technical centres, test laboratories from different regions of Ukraine took part in the seminar. Eastern regional branch of USNDT (headed by M.F.Khorlo) and Company “Ukrenergochormet” were co-organizers of the 4th Seminar-Exhibition "Modern Technologies and Instruments of NDT and Technical Diagnostics", held on November 20-21, 2003 in the city of Kharkiv. Scientific-Technical Centre "Termocontrol", Chair of "NDT Instruments and Methods" of National Technical University, Group of "Ultracon" companies provided support in organizing of the seminar. The seminar had more than 180 participants from 60 enterprises and organizations of Ukraine. 20 presentations were submitted and made in the seminar.
Participation in International Conferences and Exhibitions on NDT USNDT representatives participated in the following events:
Standardization in the field of NDT and TD USNDT conducted work on promotion of harmonized European standards on NDT in Ukraine. With this purpose a seminar “Non-Destructive Testing and Technical Diagnostics” was organized and conducted in Kiev on November 27, 2003. The issues of introducing in Ukraine new national NDT standards, harmonized with the European standards were considered and discussed in the seminar. A plan of harmonizing the European and International Standards for 2005-2006 was elaborated and submitted to Derzhspozhivstandard of Ukraine. Development of normative document "Ultrasonic Testing of Welded Joints of Boilers, Pipelines and Tanks" is conducted through co-operation of USNDT, E.O.Paton Electric Welding Institute of the NAS of Ukraine, Energy Consulting Group, Company "Donorgres". The first version of the document has been reviewed by profile organizations and enterprises. The second version of this standard has been developed, incorporating the remarks. Current achievements in the field of technical means and technologies of NDT were taken into account, when developing the document. Members of Society Board O.V.Mozgovoj, M.M.Suntsov, Yu.M.Posypaiko took part in the 4th meeting of the Working Group on Non-Destructive Testing of the Scientific-Technical Commission on Metrology of CIS Interstate Council (22-24.03.2004). Personnel Certification Work was continued to improve the system of NDT personnel certification by the procedure of USNDT, which is specified by the standards of DSTU EN 473-2001 and STTU USNDT 01-2000. In 2004 the personnel certification body of USNDT has passed the accreditation procedure in Russia and was granted the Accreditation Certificate No.18 of 19.03.2004, which confirms the authorization to conduct the work on voluntary certification of the staff on NDT in keeping with the following standards: GOST 30489, EN 473, ISO 9712, for 1st, 2nd and 3rd qualification levels on seven NDT methods in twelve industrial sectors. The Training Centre and Examination Centre of Company "Marine Bureau of the Register" (Odessa, Ukraine) were accredited in USNDT certification system. These organizations will perform training and certification of personnel on ultrasonic testing in "Shipbuilding Product" sector. Co-operation with Foreign Companies and Organizations on NDT A bilateral agreement on co-operation was signed with the Society for Non-Destructive Testing and Technical Diagnostics of the Republic of Moldova. A meeting was held of Prof. V.A.Troitsky, President of USNDT, with the Director of the Institute of Non-Destructive Testing of Fraunhoffer Society (Germany). Head of USNDT participated in the meeting of the International Committee on NDT (ICNDT), which was held in Moscow, when conducting the 3rd International Exhibition and Conference "Non-Destructive Testing and Technical Diagnostics in Industry". EFNDT membership fees have been paid for 2003-2004. Publishing and Information Activity Science-Technical and Production Journal "Technical Diagnostics and Non-Destructive Testing" is published on a quarterly basis at the E.O.Paton Electric Welding Institute with the support of USNDT. USNDT publishes on its own Information Bulletin "NDT-Inform", which is circulated in all the regions of Ukraine, in Russia and Belarus, and is also sent to the Non-Destructive Testing Societies of Europe, to the USA, Canada, China, etc. Starting from No.4 for 2003 some materials are translated and published in English. These journals are sent by the Society Secretariat free of charge to the members of the USNDT. "NDT-Inform" Journal also circulated in conferences, seminars, exhibitions, courses for training NDT personnel and technical experts, during NDT examination sessions. In the INTERNET the Society supports its site: www.usndt.com.ua. USNDT site exchanges information with similar sites of foreign NDT societies, EFNDT and ICNDT.

7th Conference-Exhibition "Non-Destructive Testing-2004" in Kiev
7th Scientific-Technical Conference "Non-Destructive Testing - 2004" was held from May 18 till 21, 2004 at the E.O.Paton Electric Welding Institute of the NAS of Ukraine in Kiev. The Conference was organized by "OKO" Association together with the Ukrainian Society for ND, E.O.Paton Electric Welding Institute of NASU, Railway Transportation Department, National Energy Company "Energoatom" and a number of other organizations. Prominent scientists and specialists in NDT field from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Croatia, France, Spain, Great Britain participated in the Conference, 400 participants all together from more than 200 organizations and enterprises. At the same time as the conference, an exhibition was held of instruments, means and materials for NDT of products and constructions, in which about 25 exhibitors took part.
Ukrainian NDT specialists conducted a conference in Turkey
A Conference on "Modern Aspects of Organizing NDT of Product Quality in an Industrial Enterprise" was held from May 1 to 8 , 2004 in Turkey. The Conference was organized by the Ukrainian Society for NDT and Technical Diagnostics, Company “Diagnostics Devices”, Company “Ultracon”, Ukrainian Information Center "SCIENCE.TECHNIQUES.TECHNOLOGY". The purpose of the Conference was determination of the most effective methods to develop NDT services in an industrial enterprise under the modern conditions. Approaches were developed to organizing NDT services, and the problems of the quality assurance system, effective strategy of its development, and optimization of the costs for functioning and technical upgrading of NDT units were analyzed from a new perspective. More than 60 specialists form Ukraine and Russia (7 persons) took part in its work.
Cooperation between Personnel Certification System of USNDT and RSNDT&TD
European Federation of Non-Destructive Testing (EFNDT) pays much attention to harmonisation in the spheres of Certification for NDT personnel. 26 national NDT Societies from different European countries have signed an agreement on mutual recognition of Certification Schemes. The objectives of this agreement are the following:
The regular meeting of EFNDT Board of Directors discussing questions of harmonisation and mutual recognition of Certification Schemes took place on March 26, 2004 in Moscow during the 3-rd International Exhibition and Conference "NDT in Industry". Within the framework of fulfilling EFNDT recommendations, Russian and Ukrainian societies for NDT set their course for integrating their schemes of voluntary certification aimed on mutual recognition of NDT personnel Certificates by the two countries. For recognising Certification schemes of Ukrainian NDT Society, the Certification Centre of USNDT has taken the procedure of recognition and got Accreditation Certificate No. 18 of March 19, 2004 (see central inset of the Bulletin) confirming that the Personnel Certification Body of USNDT has passed the procedure of recognition in conformity with GÎSÒ R 51000.9-97 requirement and regulations of the System of voluntary Personnel Certification in NDT in conformity with standards GOST 30489, EN 473, ISO 9712 at Levels I, II, III according to 7th NDT methods in twelve manufacturing sectors. Thus, since now Ukrainian specialists wishing to have their certificates recognised in the Schemes of voluntary certification in Ukraine and Russia can claim appropriate Certificate.
